(Acronym: UFAS) = French Professional Union of the Social Workers

3. Fields of work: Social Workers, members of UFAS, are coming from the differents fields of Social Work in the Belgian society, at individual, collective and community levels.

4. General Mission: UFAS shares the Global Definition of Social Work Profession approved by IFSW1 & the IASSW2 in July 2014. “Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work. Underpinned by theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and indigenous knowledge, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing.” Strategic objectives: UFAS is an NGO founded in Belgium in 1948 to meet the rising needs for information expressed by the social workers, seeking deontological, ethical and methodological references. UFAS manages and publishes updates of the "code of deontology & ethics» for the profession in the context of a changing society & a social work in TRANSITION. Gradually, facing an emerging request of ‘lifelong learning’, trainings were built that place the citizens at the heart of the empowerment process.

5. Operational objectives: activities & relevant projects Over time, gradually its missions have been enriched and became more complex in relation with societal, economic, cultural, ecological and political evolutions.

> UFAS promotes research/actions between High Social Schools, social workers & actors of the social field, including volunteers and citizens.

> It organizes trainings for its members and social workers in general; Provides individual and group supervisions at the request of private or public employers ( in the field of promoting participation, empowerment, development of the power to act, learning organisation and collective intelligence)

> Informs its members on social developments in the European institutions and in the Social Policies in Europe.

> Participates in the action programs developed by the ESAN network and the programs supported by the European Commission

> Fosters relationships with other associations in order to establish a real social network coordination

> Keeps at the disposal of its members a number of publications related to the profession of the social worker in link with the Socialplatform3 and ESAN

> Advocates and raises awareness on policies that bring social progress in Belgium, in the Walloon and Brussels Region (Social Cohesion Plan) & to all in the E.U.
